The club started in 1993 by Lorraine Taylor, Russell Martin and Mike Ellis. Previously to that Lorraine, Russell and Mike fenced at Haverhill, however it was always Lorraine's dream to start a club in Bury St. Edmunds. Mike gave her the challenge of finding fencing equipment, a venue and some beginners. With the help of a small grant from the TSB, Lorraine did that and on a cold Saturday morning in January 1993, the first beginners lesson started.
From that first beginners course the core of the club began. In 1996 the club was award a grant from the Foundation of Sport and the Arts which enabled us to buy new electric fencing equipment and kit. Since that time the club has grown in numbers. Now we have a thriving club of fencers, both cadets and adults and amongst them, some medals, cups and several County Champions.
